| The above cover is interesting as it
illustrates the practical totalitarian control that some important
people had over setting postal rates. Seņor Renteria, who owned the
stagecoach line in Chihuahua and the surrounding area, affixed only a 6
centavo stamp to the letter destined for Santa Rosalia a Chihuahua
sub-office. Further, the stamp is cancelled with a manuscript
"Chihuahua" which may indicate that it was cancelled in the
diligencia office instead of the post office, which had plenty of
canceling devices. |
